Dear Partners and Friends,

As we wrapped up Volunteer Florida’s 30th anniversary year, we reflect on an incredible year of service and impact across the state. Throughout 2024, we remained steadfast in our mission—mobilizing volunteers, supporting disaster response efforts, and strengthening communities through innovative programs and partnerships. As we look ahead, we are inspired by the dedication of our volunteers and partners who continue to make a lasting difference!

Thanksgiving Meal Distribution

Through the Hope Florida partnership, Volunteer Florida collaborated with the Florida Department of Children and Families to bring hope and support to families in need by distributing 600 Thanksgiving meals. These efforts reached communities across Taylor, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties, ensuring that families could enjoy a holiday meal.

This initiative reflects Volunteer Florida’s ongoing commitment to service and partnership, working together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Floridians during the holiday season.

AmeriCorps Fall Training

Volunteer Florida’s AmeriCorps programs attended the annual AmeriCorps Fall Training in Tampa, themed “The Greatest Service on Earth.” Participants had the opportunity to network with peers, enhance their skills in grant and program management, and collaborate regionally to strengthen their impact.

Additionally, Volunteer Florida recognized the incredible achievements of AmeriCorps programs across the state, awarding their outstanding contributions to communities through dedicated service. AmeriCorps members continue to strengthen Florida’s communities and inspire a spirit of service.

Native American Heritage Month Reception

The Governor and First Lady Casey DeSantis hosted the winners of Hispanic Heritage and Native American Heritage Month student and educator contests at the Mansion in November, where they were recognized for their exceptional essays, artwork, and educational contributions.

Volunteer Connect

Volunteer Florida continues to expand opportunities through the Volunteer Connect platform. We have engaged over 900 Hope Florida partners statewide, equipping them with resources to register and post volunteer opportunities. To date, more than 1,015 organizations are actively registered, offering over 500 volunteer opportunities across all Florida counties.

Our team is excited to continue strengthening these connections and growing Volunteer Connect as a key resource for community engagement!

VF Staff Service Projects

In November, Volunteer Florida staff were honored to serve at Second Harvest of the Big Bend, preparing breadbaskets for their food pantry to support local families in need.

In December, our team embraced the spirit of the holidays by participating in Eldercare Services’ annual “Elder Elf” initiative, granting holiday wishes for eight seniors. These initiatives reflect dedication to making a tangible difference and fostering a culture of service within our organization.

Hurricanes Helene and Milton Relief Efforts

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton—both major Category 3 storms that struck Florida—Volunteer Florida has played a critical role in response and recovery efforts. With Helene causing widespread flooding and Milton bringing severe wind damage, our focus has been on coordinated multi-agency responses, AmeriCorps deployments, and volunteer support.

AmeriCorps members were deployed to assist with debris removal, survivor support, and managing Volunteer Reception Centers, while Volunteer Villages—established in partnership with the Florida Division of Emergency Management—provided lodging for recovery volunteers in the most impacted areas.

Additionally, Volunteer Florida was actively engaged in community events—distributing supplies, collaborating with emergency management partners and local leaders, and demonstrating our unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact.
