Dear Partners and Friends,

The first quarter of the year has provided meaningful opportunities to engage with partners, elevate service initiatives, and strengthen connections across Florida. From signature service projects and statewide convenings to award recognitions and community engagement efforts, this quarter reflected the continued impact of service and collaboration in action.

I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many individuals and organizations who share our commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities.

As we move forward, Volunteer Florida remains committed to #ServeFL—supporting those who serve, fostering partnerships, and working together to make a lasting difference in communities across our state.

Volunteer Florida Foundation Fundraiser

The Volunteer Florida Foundation hosted a successful fundraiser on January 14 at the Hayward House in Tallahassee, held in conjunction with the Volunteer Florida Board Meeting. The event brought together Commissioners, partners, and supporters for an evening of connection and shared commitment to advancing our mission.

We were encouraged by the strong turnout and the enthusiasm shown by those in attendance, reflecting the meaningful impact of our work across the state. It was truly heartening to see so many individuals come together in support of Volunteer Florida and the communities we serve.

11th Annual Suits for Session Service Project

Volunteer Florida’s 11th Annual Suits for Session service project resulted in the collection of over 3,000 items of professional attire. Through the continued support of participating state agencies, partners, and donors, this initiative has grown into one of our most visible and impactful service efforts during Legislative Session.

Collected items were distributed to Dress for Success Greater Orlando, the FSU ProfessioNole Clothing Closet, and Valencia State College—organizations that play a vital role in supporting Florida job seekers as they enter or re-enter the workforce. By helping individuals access professional attire, Suits for Session not only meets a meaningful need, but also supports long-term confidence and success in securing employment.

Black History Month

Governor and First Lady DeSantis, in partnership with Volunteer Florida and the Florida Department of Education, launched the 2026 Black History Month art, essay, and educator contests under the theme “Celebrating Black History.” The statewide contests invited students and educators to reflect on and honor the significant contributions of Black Americans and their lasting impact on Florida’s communities and our nation.

Contest winners were formally recognized at a Black History Month Reception hosted at the Governor’s Mansion on February 25. The reception brought together students, educators, families, and community leaders to celebrate creativity, achievement, and legacy of Black history across the state. The event served as a meaningful reminder of the role education, service, and leadership play in strengthening Florida’s communities.

10th Annual Emergency Management Convening

Volunteer Florida hosted its 10th Annual Emergency Management Convening—the largest to date—bringing together 200 participants representing 129 organizations from across the state. The convening provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination, share best practices, and enhance collaboration among partners working to support disaster preparedness, response, and long-term recovery efforts throughout Florida.

I had the honor of presenting Volunteer Florida’s Excellence in Volunteerism Award to Hope Animal-Assisted Crisis Response in recognition of their extraordinary commitment to serving communities in times of need. This year’s award was dedicated to a very special honoree—Beau, a certified crisis response therapy dog. Beau not only completed the 600 required visits to achieve the highest therapy dog distinction, but surpassed that milestone, bringing comfort, compassion, and support to countless individuals during times of crisis. Congratulations to Beau and the entire team at Hope Animal-Assisted Crisis Response.

America’s 250th Anniversary

Volunteer Florida is proud to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary by engaging with communities across the state in partnership with state agencies through meaningful service and civic engagement opportunities. This milestone invites us to reflect on our shared values while inspiring collective action that strengthens communities and honors our nation’s legacy. I look forward to participating in America 250–themed events statewide as we mark this historic moment through service.
