Governor Rick Scott Appoints Six to the Florida Commission on Community Service

TALLAHASSEE — Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointments of Vance Aloupis, James Croteau, Linda Gonzalez, Wayne Mullican, Mayor Sam Seevers, and Sherry Wheelock to the Florida Commission on Community Service.

Aloupis, 28, of Aventura, is the child advocacy statewide director of the Early Childhood Initiative Foundation. He is appointed for a term beginning November 8, 2012, and ending September 14, 2014.

Croteau, 65, of Tallahassee, is the retired CEO & President of Elder Care Services. He is appointed for a term beginning November 8, 2012, and ending September 14, 2015.

Gonzalez, 61, of Orlando, is the vice president of community relations and government affairs for the Orlando Magic. She is appointed for a term beginning November 8, 2012, and ending September 14, 2014.

Mullican, 73, of Naples, is the retired senior vice president of sales and marketing for Graphic Packaging International. He is appointed for a term beginning November 8, 2012, and ending September 14, 2014.

Seevers, 54, of Destin, is mayor of Destin and owner of Life’s A Beach Publications. She is appointed for a term beginning November 8, 2012, and ending September 14, 2014.

Wheelock, 43, of Windermere, is the CEO of Special Olympics Florida. She is appointed for a term beginning November 8, 2012, and ending September 14, 2014.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

The Governor’s Commission on Community Service, Volunteer Florida, was established in 1994 by the Florida Legislature to administer grants under the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993. The Commission grants funds to Florida AmeriCorps and National Service programs; coordinates volunteers in a disaster; and inspires everyone from youths to seniors to people with disabilities to serve their communities.
