Derek Cooper serves as Comcast’s Vice President of Government Affairs & Community Investment for the Florida Region, which includes the State of Florida, Southern Georgia and Southern Alabama. In this role, Derek leads all government and regulatory affairs, and community impact initiatives for the Region, including Comcast Cares Day (the nation’s largest single-day corporate service event with over 100,000 volunteers), Comcast Foundation Grants, Comcast’s Leaders & Achievers Scholarships, the airing of Public Service Announcements, and Comcast’s Internet Essentials program – the national’s largest and most comprehensive internet adoption program for low-income families in America. Through the great work and collaboration of Derek’s team members and the many public and community partnerships here in Florida, Comcast has connected more than 500,000 low-income Floridians to the internet, and more than 4 million low-income Americans through the program.

Derek has over 18 years of experience in his position. He began his career as a Legislative Aide for Florida State Senator and former Senate President, Jim Scott. Before joining Comcast, Derek served as Senior Counsel and Director of Government Relations for Office Depot in Boca Raton, Florida, and prior to that position was an associate with the law firm of Greenberg Traurig.

Derek also serves as Chairman of the Volunteer Florida Foundation, President of SunFest, Immediate past Chairman of the Florida Internet & Television, and is an active member of the Orange Bowl Committee, the Economic Council of Palm Beach County and the Florida Bar Association to name a few. Interestingly, Derek attributes his forever kid-at-heart spirit to his birthplace of East Aurora, NY – the home of Fisher-Price toys, where he grew up testing the latest and greatest new toys. Derek has beautiful 5 year old daughter named Sage, and spends his free time these days keeping up with her.
