TAMPA, Fla. — Today, Governor Scott recognized Florida Blue for its generous donation of $10,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund, which was activated last week to aid those impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The Florida Disaster Fund, administered by the Volunteer Florida Foundation, is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist Florida’s communities in times of disaster.

Governor Scott said, “Hurricane Matthew caused considerable damage along Florida’s east coast and many families and businesses are still recovering from this storm. I want to thank Florida Blue for its generous donation to the Florida Disaster Fund and for helping our state help those in need.”

Susan Towler, Vice President of the Florida Blue Foundation, said, “Florida Blue is working with several community partners to help and support recovery efforts. Volunteer Florida is a critical part of Florida’s service and donation infrastructure. We are pleased to help them with the important work of rebuilding what was lost in Hurricane Matthew.”

Volunteer Florida CEO Chester W. Spellman said, “We are proud of the tremendous work our partners are doing in affected areas to help Florida families, businesses, and communities following Hurricane Matthew. Florida Blue’s generous contribution will be used to support the good work of those organizations and we are grateful.”
