TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Volunteer Florida, the entity responsible for managing AmeriCorps programs in the State of Florida, is pleased to announce the 2023-2024 AmeriCorps funding request for proposals (RFP). Organizations interested in applying should respond to the RFP by Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 5:00 PM (EST). “Volunteer Florida is proud to offer this funding to help leverage our state’s community needs, including educational mentorship, environmental stewardship, healthy futures for veterans, and so much more,” said Volunteer Florida CEO Josie Tamayo. “We encourage organizations seeking to further strengthen their community resilience to apply for this opportunity.”
This past year, nearly 1,500 people took the pledge to improve Florida’s communities through AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps members serve in many different capacities, including educational support, veterans’ services, public land conservation, disaster response, and more. Member activities include tutoring and mentoring underserved students, supporting veterans and military families, sustaining state parks, as well as responding to emergencies and disasters. AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteering, and funding is administered by state service commissions like Volunteer Florida. Over the past 25 years, AmeriCorps has empowered over 1.4 million individuals nationwide to dedicate a year of service, driving solutions to our communities’ most pressing issues. In return, members gain leadership skills and on-the-job training, as well as a living stipend and educational award equivalent to the Pell Grant, used to help pay for post-secondary educational costs upon completion of their service.
