TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Volunteer Florida announced the availability of up to $512,000 in grant funding to assist Florida’s nonprofit organizations in the recruitment and retention of skills-based volunteers through the national Volunteer Generation Fund. Organizations interested in applying for one of the 25 possible grants should respond to the request for proposals by 5pm (EST) Friday, August 11th.

It is expected that this year’s Volunteer Generation Fund programs will help local nonprofits manage and support approximately 10,000 skills-based volunteers who will collectively contribute 75,000 hours of service throughout the State of Florida – a total value of $2,076,000.

The Volunteer Generation Fund helps organizations more effectively recruit, manage, support and retain skills-based volunteers. Skill based volunteering is a strategic type of volunteerism that expands the impact of community organizations by leveraging the professional skills, lived experience and talents of volunteers and matches them with the needs of Florida’s nonprofits. Funding for the Volunteer Generation Fund is made available by AmeriCorps, the federal agency responsible for volunteering and national service, and administered by Volunteer Florida.

Special consideration for funding will be given to organizations supporting rural communities, high impact mentoring and tutoring programs associated with the National Partnership for Student Success and those aligned with the United We Serve initiative. New and second-year subgrantee organizations will be eligible to receive $20,000 in grant funding, and third-year subgrantees will be eligible to receive $24,000 in grant funding.
