TALLAHASSEE – Volunteer Florida and the Southeastern Council of Foundations (SECF) announced today that they will host a #BringABook service initiative for the first time in conjunction with the SECF Annual Meeting at Amelia Island.

“Volunteer Florida is proud to partner with the Southeastern Council of Foundations to host a #BringABook service initiative at the SECF Annual Meeting,” said Chester Spellman, Volunteer Florida CEO. “This partnership is a wonderful example of communities across the Southeast working together to invest in our children’s future, and Volunteer Florida is proud to spearhead this initiative.”

Volunteer Florida and SECF are asking grant-makers, board experts, and philanthropic leaders attending the SECF Annual Meeting to bring new or gently-used books for elementary school students. Volunteer Florida and the SECF will collect books at the Annual Meeting registration area on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 and Thursday, November 10, 2016.

“SECF is honored to co-host the first #BringABook service project with Volunteer Florida at the 47th Annual Meeting,” said Janine Lee, President and CEO of the Southeastern Council of Foundations. “As philanthropic leaders, we are proud to actively serve students in our host state of Florida.”

Volunteer Florida partners will distribute the books to students in low-income schools in the region. Students will get to take a book home to begin their very own library.

SECF’s Annual Meeting brings together grant-makers, thought leaders and experts from across the philanthropic sector in the Southeast and beyond to share ideas, innovations and insights that help empower communities and create transformational change through grant-making.
