Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Volunteer Florida CEO Corey Simon applauded Governor Ron DeSantis’ signing of the Freedom First Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023, which supports volunteer efforts, disaster preparedness, and includes historic reserves to effectively respond to any emergency. “This is good, solid stewardship. Together with the Legislature, Governor DeSantis’ Freedom First Budget invests in Florida’s families, plans for the future, and strengthens our fabric as a state,” said Volunteer Florida CEO Corey Simon. “We are continuing our commitment to enable nonprofit organizations throughout the state to serve our communities and empower Floridians in need. Our Governor and legislative leaders understand that it is in service to each other that we are able to stand stronger, together.” With funding from the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Volunteer Florida is able to leverage federal funds from AmeriCorps and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to administer national service programs, ensure disaster resiliency and promote volunteerism throughout the State of Florida.
