TALLAHASSEE, Fla
. – Today, Volunteer Florida announced the availability of $300,000 in AmeriCorps Planning Grants to support organizations interested in implementing an AmeriCorps program that addresses a critical community need caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Awarded organizations will receive up to $75,000 for a one-year planning period to prepare for and manage a future AmeriCorps program. These organizations may apply for an additional grant award, subsequent to their planning year.

Organizations interested in applying for this planning grant should respond to the notice of funding by Thursday, June 18 at 5 pm (ET).

“Nonprofits play a critical role in the success of Florida’s communities and economy,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “My administration is proud to make this grant program available to support the efforts of those organizations serving communities affected by COVID-19.”

“Under both blue skies and grey, Florida’s nonprofit community steps up to the plate to provide critical services, from mentoring school children to providing food and housing resources,” said Volunteer Florida CEO Clay Ingram. “This funding is an incredible way for these organizations to continue their mission and increase their impact in the years to come.”

This funding is made available by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency for volunteering and national service, and administered by state service commissions, like Volunteer Florida. Over the past 25 years, AmeriCorps has empowered over one million individuals across the nation to dedicate a year to service and become the solution to our communities’ most pressing issues. In return, members gain leadership skills and on-the-job-training, as well as a living stipend and education award that can be used to help pay for college or repay student loans upon the completion of their service year.
