Florida lost a selfless community servant earlier this month with the passing of Polk Reads AmeriCorps member Dave Foster.
Dave served as a reading tutor for three years with AmeriCorps Polk Reads at Griffin Elementary, Boswell Elementary and Kathleen Elementary in Polk County. He helped Polk Reads serve over 1,126 students over the past three years.
Dave was a gifted musician and had a passion for volunteerism. He is remembered as a kind and thoughtful individual by his fellow AmeriCorps members, and he proved that leadership and service are possible at any stage in life.
Dave served in AmeriCorps alongside his wife, Bessie, of 33 years. He was 75.
