Governor’s Veterans Service Award
The Governor’s Veterans Service Award is sponsored by Florida Power & Light (FPL) as a way of recognizing both active and former members of the United States Armed Forces. The Governor presents medals to veterans throughout the state, honoring them for their service and sacrifice to our nation. The Governor’s objective in creating the Medals For Veterans Program is to publicly acknowledge every Florida resident who is a military veteran for their willingness to put their lives on the line for our freedom. According to the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, there are approximately 1.6 million veterans living in Florida, making Florida the third largest state in the nation for veterans.
Governor Scott presents the medals while traveling around the state, visiting VA regional centers, hospitals, clinics and nursing homes.
