What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps gets things done for America – building safer, stronger, healthier, and more united communities across the nation. Through these extraordinary acts of citizenship by ordinary Americans, AmeriCorps is improving the lives of tens of millions of our most vulnerable citizens.

AmeriCorps grants provide financial assistance to programs to recruit, train, and supervise AmeriCorps members meeting critical community needs in the areas of education, disaster services, health, environmental stewardship, economic opportunity, and service to veterans and military families. Grant applicants design service activities for a team of members serving full- or part-time for one year or during the summer.

AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
