Volunteer Centers

volunteer centersVOLUNTEER CENTERS across the state serve as a focal point for volunteers in local communities. These Centers give citizens access to volunteer opportunities in their local areas. Volunteer Florida partners with these Centers and provides extensive training for AmeriCorps and national service participants, community volunteers, and volunteer program staff and directors.

florida association of volunteer centers

Florida Association of Volunteer Centers

The Florida Association of Volunteer Centers (FAVC) is a vital association that provides a network of support and professional development to the leaders of Florida’s Volunteer Centers. Through quarterly meetings, FAVC members discuss new opportunities for volunteers, professional development and grant opportunities for volunteer leaders, as well as share best practices to ensure that Florida’s volunteers have the best possible volunteer experience.

Volunteer Centers are the doorway to volunteering. Through FAVC, Volunteer Centers can continue to provide rewarding experiences for people of all ages who want to volunteer in their local communities.

points of light foundation

Points of Light Foundation: The Volunteer Center National Network

The Points of Light Foundation works in partnership with the Volunteer Center National Network (VCNN) to help mobilize people and resources to find creative solutions to community problems.

Volunteer Centers are conveners for the community, catalysts for social action and key local resources for volunteer involvement. They bring people and community needs together through a range of programs and services based upon community needs, demographic area, population size, and other factors.

The Volunteer Center's role in the community is centered on the ability to:

  • Connect people with the opportunity to serve
  • Build the capacity for effective local volunteering
  • Promote volunteering
  • Participate in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers

The Volunteer Center National Network boasts membership of 360 Volunteer Centers. Despite variations in size, structure, and programs, Volunteer Centers recognize capacity as a system. Acting collectively as a unified network is the single most powerful strategy for boosting their efficacy.
