"I Remember. I Serve."

National Day of Service and Remembrance a time to serve and honor first responders

ON APRIL 21, 2009, the President signed into law the Serve America Act authorizing many groundbreaking service initiatives. Among these was the establishment of September 11 as federally recognized and supported National Day of Service and Remembrance, using the slogan: "I Remember. I Serve."

The events of September 11, 2001, changed America profoundly, creating lingering questions about how best to remember the lives of those lost and injured and pay tribute to the first responders, recovery workers and others — including members of the mitlitary — who responded to the tragedy. Establishing 9/11 as a National Day of Service provides everyone with a constructive way to observe that day through good deeds, volunteerism and other forms of charitable service.

Individuals and organizations can post their plans at: www.911day.org

The 9/11 National Day of Service is being led by MyGoodDeed.org a nonprofit organization, along with an alliance of leading nonprofit service organizations, federal, state and local agencies that promote volunteerism and charitable activities, and 9/11 support groups. Other national service partners include National September 11 Memorial & Museum, ServiceNation, City Year, Youth Service America, Be The Change, Points of Light Foundation / HandsOn Network, AARP, America's Promise Alliance and other groups.

At the same time, the 9/11 National Day of Service is completely inclusive. Any individual, business or or organization can implement a 9/11 service project or activity on their own, and everyone is invited to post their 9/11 plans at: www.911day.org. For more information, contact the 9/11 National Day of Service at info@911day.org.
