AmeriCorps South Florida Preparedness and Response Team Gears Up for Hurricane Season 2006

americorps south floridaAmeriCorps South Florida Preparedness and Response Team is preparing their community for the next disaster. On a day-to-day basis these Members reach out to target populations by conducting disaster preparedness and safety presentations. They attend disaster fairs, expos and conferences and provide vital preparedness information and resources in an effort to build Disaster Resistant Neighborhoods.

With the start of Hurricane Season 2006, the AmeriCorps Members conducted a call-down of people registered for the Emergency Evacuation Assistance Program for the Miami-Dade Office of Emergency Management. They have also been strengthening the volunteers of Miami-Dade County by conducting volunteer orientations, assisting with training and helping to develop these volunteers so that they may serve to the best of their abilities in times of disasters.

The AmeriCorps Members have great strength in their response function responding to local disasters 24/7 through the Disaster Action Team program. They are also a part of the National Response Team so they can respond to disasters in other states and always provide appropriate and accurate assistance and information for the recovery of those affected by disasters.

AmeriCorps South Florida Preparedness and Response Team believes that Disaster Education is the first step toward preparation and safety. They are an integral part of preparing Greater Miami and The Keys for any type of disaster that comes their way.
