Trudie Kibbe Reed

trudie kibbe-reedDr. Trudi Kibbe Reed is Bethune-Cookman University ’s fifth president, and the first woman to serve in this capacity since the College’s founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.  Dr. Reed assumed the presidency of Bethune-Cookman University Aug. 16, 2004 after a very successful career in higher education within The United Methodist Church.  Dr. Reed brings experience and expertise as an educator, administrator, visionary, public speaker and student-centered leader.

In addition to her distinguished career in higher education, during her tenure with the United Methodist Church, she led and coordinated the denomination’s first national prison ministry, deaf ministry, and ministries by, with and for older adults’ initiatives.  Dr. Kibbe Reed also is a former member of the White House Advisory Board for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and currently serves on the Civic League in Volusia County, on the Volusia County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is a member of the Board at the United Way.

In the past, Dr. Reed was recognized for outstanding leadership by the South Carolina Governor, was voted “Business Woman of the Year,” and received the Diamond Twin Award from the YWCA for outstanding leadership and community service.

Dr. Reed was appointed to the Commission by Governor Jeb Bush on December 15, 2005.
