David Ramsay recently retired after working for SunTrust for more than 45 years. Dave came to Tallahassee in 1995, from a career centered in Tennessee, to serve as the Chairman of SunTrust Bank, Tallahassee. In 1999, Panama City and Pensacola were added to his territory and the bank’s name was changed to SunTrust Bank, Northwest Florida, where Ramsay now serves in the capacity of Chairman, President and CEO.
At year end 2006, SunTrust Bank, Northwest Florida operated 31 offices and held deposits in excess of $1.5 billion. Mr. Ramsay is active in community services, having served as Chairman of the local Economic Development Council and as the Campaign Chair for the United Way. He was appointed by Secretary of State Sue Cobb to serve on the board of Mission San Luis and is a Vice President of Florida’s Great Northwest, a regional economic development council. In 1986 – 1987, he served as the National President of the American Institute of Banking.
Dave is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga having received his degree in Business Administration with emphasis in accounting. He is also a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at LSU, the American Bankers Association’s National Commercial Lending Graduate School at the University of Oklahoma and the Robert Morris Associates Senior Loan Management Program at Indiana University.
In 1966, he was commissioned as an infantry officer and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal in Stuttgart, Germany.
He is married to the former Nancy Jo Bales, a Teacher of the Year recipient for the Chattanooga/Hamilton County School System, and they have two sons.
Mr. Ramsay was appointed to the Commission by Governor Jeb Bush on September 1, 2004
