Beverly Hougland is CEO of the Osceola County Council on Aging, where she has worked for more than 28 years, beginning as a Program Director and receiving the appointment of CEO in 1990. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University and has professional associations that include the Florida Council on Aging, the Local Board of Federal Emergency Management Agency, the YMCA, and the American Cancer Society.

In 1998, Beverly received the Osceola County Distinguished Leadership Award for her pioneering work in program development for at-risk populations in Osceola County. Her creative collaborations with other community providers have garnered millions of dollars to address community needs.

The leadership Beverly provided during the 2004 hurricanes is well-known. The Council on Aging operated three special-needs shelters in partnership with the Osceola County Health Department during the devastating 2004 hurricane season. Around-the-clock services were provided to more than 28,000 seniors during the storms and during recovery. Disaster assistance is still being provided for seniors who need home repair services and debris removal. Beverly also chairs the County Long Term Recovery Committee that addresses and funds unmet disaster needs in Osceola. Within the community, Beverly is involved actively with the Health Issues Taskforce, which focuses on the health needs of seniors aged 55 to 64 who do not have health insurance.

Beverly’s guidance has been instrumental in leading the Council on Aging to win many awards, including: 2006 Dr. Carter Osterbind Outstanding FCOA Member, the 2006 Chamber of Commerce Living Legend Award, the 2005 Southern Gerontological Society Best Practice Award, the 2005 Beacon Award, the Bob Allen Walt Disney Special Judges Award, the 2004 Outstanding Business Award, the 2003 Elder Ready Organization of the Year, the 2003 Osceola County School District Partner of the Year, the 2000 Florence R. Goldman Outstanding Senior Center Award, and the Golden Apple Award from the National Association of Nutrition Service Providers.
