david armstrongJ. David Armstrong, Jr. is President of Broward Community College and former Chancellor of Florida's Community Colleges and Workforce Education. Mr. Armstrong's vision for education and economic development is summarized in the Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education logo: "Putting Minds to Work." He has developed numerous partnerships with business and industry and has encouraged K-20 formal and informal agreements with public and private institutions. His primary strategic initiatives are ensuring that all students have maximum access to higher education; encouraging highest student achievement; focusing on measurable student learning; developing lifelong careers through quality training programs; and supplying Florida with a skilled workforce.

Mr. Armstrong was appointed and elected as a Trustee to the College Board for a four-year term. He recently served as the Chair of the National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges.


Mr. Armstrong remains active in numerous volunteer activities such as mentoring and Habitat for Humanity and finds relaxation in his love of sailing.

Mr. Armstrong serves as Florida Department of Education Representative to the Commission.
