The Bonner AmeriCorps program mobilizes the talents and interests of college students, the resources of institutions of higher learning and those of community organizations to fully engage in community-building partnerships. These partnerships address critical community needs related to poverty, education, the environment, citizens with disabilities or elderly populations. Bonner AmeriCorps members will primarily be involved in issues of hunger, mentoring, other human needs, capacity building and disaster relief in under-resourced communities nationwide. On campus, Bonner AmeriCorps members also work to develop a culture of service and an ethic of service amongst their peers. Campus staff meet regularly with Bonner AmeriCorps Members to facilitate their development as team leaders, assist in reflection and assessment, and equip them to serve as a point of contact for faculty and students who might become engaged through a service-learning or community based research course.
