WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST
WAY to encourage
everyday citizens to put their passion into action, to realize their full
potential as a volunteer, and to recognize those who already dedicate
their free time to improving the lives of others? Governor Charlie Crist and
the Florida cabinet will designate April as Florida Volunteer Month. How is
that for a heartwarming idea? The three key goals of Florida Volunteer Month
are:
-
To show Floridians that volunteering is good for
the heart and soul, and how it can positively impact lives
and improves communities.
-
To engage citizens in volunteer activities. Mentoring
and tutoring are just two of the many ways to become involved.
-
To persuade businesses that promoting
volunteerism shows their employees and customers that they have a heart and support
their communities.
This
year, Volunteer Florida is once again celebrating the spirit of volunteerism
and its value to communities, to businesses, and to individuals who choose
to volunteer. The Florida Volunteer Month Web site offers resources to help promote
volunteerism, and Volunteer Florida will be executing a statewide media blitz
to make sure as many people as possible know that volunteers are the heartbeat
of Florida!
